MitoQ
provides 5 mg of mitoquinol or mitoquinol mesylate per capsule. It is made from naturally occurring coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) from the green-lipped mussel (
Perna canaliculus
) and modified to target the mitochondria.
CoQ10 is a vitamin-like substance – a so-called vitaminoid. It is an important antioxidant that protects mitochondria from free radical damage, among other things, and it plays a significant role in cellular energy production. The highest concentrations of CoQ10 are found in the organs with the highest energy requirements, such as the heart, lungs and liver.
MitoQ is designed to increase the normally low bioavailability of CoQ10. Unlike CoQ10, MitoQ is positively charged, which is why it is attracted to the negatively charged mitochondria. This results in a significantly higher degree of efficiency.
