Description
What is iodine?
Iodine is one of the essential trace elements that our body cannot produce on its own. It is a component of the thyroid hormone thyroxine and is therefore of central importance for the functioning of the metabolism. All human organ systems (especially the nervous system) depend on iodine. Iodine is also important for maintaining body temperature (basal metabolism) as well as for cell division and growth. In addition, it plays a role in the maintenance of normal skin (regenerative capacity), contributes to normal cognitive function and thus plays an important role in mental movement and activity. It supports normal growth in children. An undersupply of iodine can manifest itself through an enlargement of the thyroid gland as goiter.
Iodine in our food
Good food sources of iodine are sea fish and other marine products such as seaweed and seaweed. The iodine content of foodstuffs is subject to large regional and seasonal fluctuations, as it is largely dependent on the iodine content of soils, water bodies and livestock.
Iodine as a supplement
The product Kelp by NaturesPlus contains 150 mcg of natural iodine from Icelandic seaweed per tablet. One pack provides 300 tablets.
Hint:
Food supplements are not intended to be a substitute for a balanced and varied diet.
